When I took some leave from work two weeks ago, I had the opportunity to take maternity photos for one of my very good friends. Always financially savvy, her and her fiancé decided against spending money to have maternity photos taken, opting instead to save for newborn photos after birth. Well, I just couldn't stand the thought of her not having any maternity photos to look back on, so I offered to take them for her as a gift – great practice for me, and good keepsakes for her.

Well, we didn't think everything through completely. It was 90 degrees outside, at noon, and she was 38 weeks pregnant – and I am not experienced with maternity photos at all. In fact, this is only the second time I’ve ever taken maternity photos.

This time was amazing though! The couple was so excited for the photos, and their little bundle of joy on the way.

They did not know the gender, but while photographing them, I found myself continuously referring to the lively infant tossing in the mom’s belly as a “he.”

We took as many pictures as we could before mama got too hot and sweaty, and while editing I tried my best to keep her looking cool, but there’s no denying the power of late July Nebraska heat.

The couple brought a book, a couple onesies (including one I gave them), and their ultrasound photos. Overall, I think with the props we were able to get a good variety of photos in the 45 minutes we were out there.

Well, today I am excited to announce that little babe made HIS appearance, and he’s absolutely perfect!! I am so excited for my friend, her fiancé and their new baby boy:

Welcome to the world, little man! I can’t wait for the opportunity to take photos of you someday! (And don't worry, we'll make sure there is air conditioning so we don't melt!)
